What can you use the app for?

Tubalr is a unique YouTube-based search engine that helps users enjoy their favorite music without all the hassle and clutter that comes with sites like YouTube. The user begins by entering the band’s name into a search bar. The user can search for that band only or choose the “similar” button to find bands that are similar to the one the user provided. A video appears below the search bar with absolutely no advertising, recommendations or other distractions. The user sees the video, hears the music and can choose to go to the next video, a previous video or remove the video. The playlist appears to the right so the user can see what will be next. Registered users can save videos to reference later.

Tubalr was introduced on September 12th, 2010. The application has not received much recognition anywhere on the web as of yet. It could be because it really only serves one purpose but it is one that many user can really appreciate and utilize. The site gives users who are only interested in music a way to experience YouTube videos without any obstacles or distractions. The site hasn’t received any notable mentions, but offers an appealing service to the right kind of user.

What are the differences to other apps?

Tubalr’s main focus is searching for and playing YouTube videos. The function isn’t really the site’s main focus. The focus should lie in the way that Tubalr presents the video. The user can view the video against a plain background with absolutely no clutter, advertisements or recommendations pushing them to view additional videos. The site presents a simple play list and a previous, next and remove link to give the user control over which videos they view. The experience is as streamlined as online music videos can get.

How does the web app look and feel to use?

The look of Tubalr is the application’s bread and butter. The user sees a lightly colored background, the site logo and the search bar and nothing more to begin. Searching for videos produces one clip at a time at the center of the page. A dark playlist is shown to the right, giving the user instant access to songs further up or down on the list. The design manages to be minimalist without reducing visual appeal thanks to the modern feel and simple yet stylish logo.

How does the registration process work?

The form appears at the center of the next page and asks for a username, email address, musical tastes and password.
